hink Rob Zombie remakes "Them" - Cool Review from No Fold

Very nice review we got last weekend from NoFold (http://nofold.beloblog.com/ see archive)

Saturday Night's Shows
Strawberry Fields(2310 W. Oak, 9pm, cover varies cheap-to-free)
Violent Squid
Mad Scientists

Last weekend a lot of us got together to play a cover show at Hailey's as sort-of end of year/Christmas party. Mad Scientists were tapped to put on a set of early Pink Floyd, and I think that was pretty much the closest you could get to the real thing without the original members, a time machine, and a LOT of drugs.
There's a lot of talent in that band, though they're not exactly on the highest rung of the popularity ladder. Their original material is weird at best, a sort of jazz-metal infused background score to a modernized version of a 1950's movie about a science experiment gone terribly wrong. (Think Rob Zombie remakes "Them"). I think it's impressive in the age of clone radio that a band still plays exactly what they set out to play a few years ago without giving in and playing what's popular.

Soma Holiday - GB's Experimental Track of the Day

Soma Holiday is doing well in the experimental category on Garageband (http://www.garageband.com). We almost didn't classify it as experimental because for us its pretty straight forward but then decided most of what gets thrown in to experimental rock on that site doesn't really belong in that category anyway and the songs that do well are fairly generic pop songs. But we've never really understood how most people think anyways. So, we called it experimental (although we think its a bit of a stretch but its not exactly rock, jazz or any other simplistic category either) and of course what happens it gets track of the day.

If you want to download this song you can always go to itunes
or for the rest of December you can get it FREE! Not only will you get it free but you'll get all the songs off Geoparasitism (our cd) free and some extra bonus live/demo tracks. Just sign up for the email list on our myspace (www.myspace.com/TheMadScientists) or the website (www.TheMadScientists.biz) and fill out the email list sign up form. MySpace, Website, and Pics & Videos, OH MY!

EyeGore(our webmaster)has been putting in lots of extra hours the last couple of weeks fixing up the website and our myspace page. The myspace page (www.myspace.com/TheMadScientists) has been fixed up with a new bio, cdbaby AND itunes links, improved readability (or at least we think so), and LOTS of new pictures. Feel free to check out EyeGore's hard work when you have a chance. The website (http://www.TheMadScientists.biz) is still being worked on but should be completely updated by the end of the week. If you have some extra time you should definitely stop by and see all the hard work EyeGore did just for you. Plus, you can see pictures of our new drummer Brandon Whitehead. And maybe (just maybe) there will be some video clips up on both sites before the end of the year. If you have any video, audio, or pictures you've taken at our shows send us an email and we will put them up on the website and give you our un-dieing love.

Free CD Download (Plus Bonus Tracks) All December!!!

A few months ago (long before Radiohead's big annoucement) we hinted on our email list that everyone on it (what we refer to as Test Subjects) would get a free download of Geoparasitism as a tremendous thank you for being so incredibly awesome. Well, we thought about and we changed our minds. JUST KIDDING! No, the more we thought about how so many have already bought the album we wanted to do something special for everyone. So, what we came up with is that the free download version will include about half of the original tracks and about half alternate versions. Also, we are throwing in a couple of bonus cuts of live songs and early demo versions. Several people have told us they prefer the original demo recordings from our little 4 track recorder and we thought we would include those as a bonus and let you decide. But, to make things fun there will be different versions of the bonus downloads. You may get a live version of Amethyste and demo of Hideously Mutated Life. Someone else on the list may get a live version of The Burning Circus Tent and demo of Masquerade of the Macabre. We're still digging up tracks so its all a mystery to even us right now. If you want to post a comment either here or on the myspace blog or on the guestbook (www.TheMadScientists.biz/guest.html)) and see if someone wants to trade you mp3s go for it.
Think of it as the Garbage Pail Kids of the 00's. Meet other Test Subjects like yourself online and then see each other in person at a show. So, now with all that hoopla your wondering how will you obtain the downloads to begin with. Aha! First, you must sign up for the email list. There is a form to do so on our myspace page (www.myspace.com/themadscientists) and on our website (www.themadscientists.biz) We will email the files to you within 24 of the time you sign up starting Sat. Dec. 1st (if you sign up by Fri. you'll get them on Sat.).

It's Over

Today is the that we finally announce that it is over, our search for a drummer. That right, we are proud to announce that Brandon Whitehead will be the newest Mad Scientist. Brandon is a hard hitting maniac with an old school punk background. He bring a new level of heaviness
to the band but is the super strength industrial glue that binds the mayhem together. We hope you can make it out to one of our shows this month (Oct. 19th (this Friday) or Halloween) and check him out. We also plan on debuting at least one new song at the Dallas Scaregrounds (2001 Irving Blvd.) on Friday. We plan on keeping the new stage show underwraps though until Halloween night at Hangman's House of Horrors in Ft. Worth. Friday at the Scaregrounds will be really fun. Its a great haunted house and we are playing with our dear friends Violent Squid and Silk Stocking.

We're Gigging Again

While nothing is secured on who or what the drummer will be (or if there will be one) we will be playing this month as we return to some of our favorite haunted houses in the area.

First, is the Dallas Scaregrounds on Oct. 19th (The night before Kim's bday stop by and wish her the good tidings). We will be playing with our longtime friends and two of the best bands in DFW Violent Squid and Silk Stocking. You do not have to pay for the house to see us play but I do believe there is a small ($2) charge to see just the bands. If your interested in the the houses (which are super cool btw) you can print out coupons on the website, find us, or keep your eyes peeled while your out and about. The website it www.dallasscregrounds.com

Next, to announce is our return Hangman's House of Horrors in Ft. Worth on Halloween night. If you can't make 7pm have no fear (yet) there will be three sets of insanity for you to come lose yourself to. You can come see or show for free or purchase tickets for the haunts (HIGHLY recommended - money goes to charities) Hangman's had been featured on the Travel Channel's America's Scariest Halloween Attraction and is the 1 charity haunted house in the U.S. Come out and help support four excellent charities: Safe Haven, American Cancer Society, A Wish With Wings, and Rock Top Therapy Center. Print out coupons or get more details at www.hangmans.com

Lab Explosions (aka Where Have We Been?)

If you thought we were blown up in a lab explosions and would never be heard from again you weren't exactly wrong. If you recall a week after our last show with Christina, Denton was hit with a flood of almost biblical proportions. Unfortunately, the laboratory was on the perimeters of the affected area. On the evening of the first big set of storms the roof to the lab began to leak and eventually cave-in in a few spots. Do not fret the mutants, lab equipment, and music gear were safely stored in a more secure area of the lab and nothing was damaged. So, needless to say since all this occurred drummer auditions and much more have been put on hiatus while we found a new laboratory and moved. Fortunately, that has been taken care of and the unpacking is almost complete so drummer auditions and song writing for the upcoming album can resume. The new laboratory is bigger, nicer, and has an area we are fixing up into a small recording studio so in the end this really worked out for the best.

Thanks!

We want to thank everyone who made it to Secret Headquarters on Friday and for helping make it an unforgettable night. Violent Squids put on an amazing show that had the crowd going nuts. It was one of the best sets I've seen them play. I felt like our show was bad ass as well. Thanks to all you crazies that were dancing, singing, and providing general chaos. It couldn't have been a better way to say goodbye to Christina.

Our Most Requested Song - Hideously Mutated Life

We have discussed so many of the songs we rotate on the myspace player but haven't really talked about any of the ones available for free download or on our demo cd. So let's begin with our most requested song, Hideously Mutated Life. This song is a heavy bluesy rocker injecting toxic slime into your brain. It was one of the earliest songs written by Kim & Brannon and has been a set list staple since the earliest days of the band. This song is fun to play live and get the crowd up and moving but it also has an important message check it out at (http://www.themadscientists.biz/lyrics). Now to demonstrate just how mad we actually are, we make this song available for free download at (http://www.themadscientists.biz
http://www.myspace.com/themadscientists or
http://www.download.com/themadscientists ). Please realize these are mp3s and they will be of inferior quality to what we offer on our
demo cd available at all of our shows and various locations across the DFW area. Plus, the cd comes with cool fetal olive artwork!

Christina's Final Show This Friday 4.20.7

Friday will be your final chance to see this incarnation of The Mad Scientists. Christina is leaving to pursue her visual art interests and will be playing this last show with us. We are very fortunate to
be doing this show at such an amazing venue as Secret Headquarters (SHQ). If your not not familiar with SHQ it a DIY venue in Denton (210 E. Hickory - the old Art Prostitute building). It is a cool, funky, BYOB venue where the music is always amazing and the coolest Dentonites hang out. It is definitely a music venue but it has the laid back vibe of a great house party. Your almost always guaranteed to meet new people and see people you haven't seen in a long time. Given all this it seems like a great place to play our final show with Christina. If you sign up for the email list at the show or are already on it and make it out we will give you a special gift so you can remember Christina always. We will be playing with our good friends and an amazing group of musicians Violent Squids. Violent Squids will be doing a special collaboration with the Oveo that night. With the Squids you never know what to expect; they're experimental, improvisational, and insane. Also, hitting the stage is the young Denton band, Christian! Teenage Runaways.
